Unplug.themachinery.net is a community based forum, with a commitment to free, unhindered discussion and democratic involvement in setting standards and site policy. However, to ensure all users can enjoy the site, there are a few rules and restrictions that all members must adhere to in order to post here.

Terms of Use

Maintaining an Account

When creating an account, for either the blog or forum section, please do not use throwaway emails to register, or publish the details of your account, such as your password, publicly. If you do we are not liable for anything that happens to your account. If you wish to have an account, please make sure you use a real and secure email, and keep account details to yourself.

Also to facilitate future integration, we would appreciate it if people use the same user name and email account for both forum and blog accounts.

Maintaining a blog

Any user may establish a blog, and all posts made on a blog remain the intellectual property of the respective contributor. However blogs may not contain material that 1) is defamatory: 2) pornographic or sexually inappropriate; 3) incites hatred or contains racist, sexist, or otherwise discriminatory content; and/or 4) breaches the law of the United States or the Jurisdiction you are posting from.

Blog comments policy

Comments made about blog posts must comply with the forum posting rules (listed below). However, the degree of off topicness allowed will be up to the discretion of the blog contributor, whose blog you are posting on.

Forum posting rules

Bigotry: this board does not tolerate the expression of racist, sexist or other prejudice ideas or sentiments. Bad faith criticism of others’ religions and sexual preferences is also frowned upon

Abuse: Users [defined as anyone who uses this site regardless of rank or position] should refrain from making insulting, degrading, or defamatory remarks to or about other users. If the remarks are deemed strong enough, moderators reserve the right to edit or move the offending remarks. Stalking, sexual harassment, or continual actions designed to intimidate users will not be tolerated.

Inappropriate Content: The posting of sexually explicit or otherwise inappropriate material or images, or other content that breaches the community standards or laws of the United States or the jurisdiction you are posting from are strictly forbidden.

Spamming: Users should also refrain from making excessive pointless or gratuitously off topic remarks. Trolling, commercial advertising and other such activities are also unwelcome.

Readability: Please make sure all your posts are readable and visually unobtrusive. e.g. don’t make posts in size 56 green neon text.

Consequences, Complaints & Review

We realise that anyone can lose their temper, or make ill-judged remarks from time to time. However repeated breaches of the blog terms of use can result in deletion of offending passage, blog post, and/or termination of your blog in the most dire of cases, While repeated breaches of forums and blog posting rules will result in other penalties up to having comment posting privileges suspend or being banned from the forum

That said, if you feel that your treatment by the moderators has been incorrect or unfair, you can make a thread in the complaints section of our forum, or by private messaging/emailing the moderator involved. If you are still not satisfied after discussing it with the moderator, you may request an independent review by another member of non-moderator staff. The result of this review is, however, final.
