Throw your hat into the ring...
So here we go, the big run up to 2008 has started. Obama and Clinton being two big players for us Dems, and oh god Guliani and Tancredo for the GOP.
I have to say that this year I seem more excited for the elections. Not to say I wasnt excited about 2004, I was, but it was tinged with a dread and a fear. Why am I excited for 2008? Well aside from the DNC coming to Denver this year, I also see this as a year where so far it seems an amazing change in course for this nation could take place. What would happen to the US public view if they did ellect a woman president? What about a black president? Oh and the other reason I am excited? This year no matter what, Bush will be out which in my mind is a good thing.
However it seems to me that the mud slinging has started a bit early this year. I was listening to NPR (thats national public radio for those out there who dont listen or know about it www.npr.org) and heard a story about how some one had already tried to smear Obama, saying that he had gone to school as a kid at a school who teaches an extreme wing of the Muslim religion. This was later retracted and corrected by every major news industry that "broke" this story hoping to add fuel to an already growing fire of what seems to be fear of muslims in this country. But my first reaction on hearing that they published this with out verifying the validity of it (which seems amazing as the school was named and perhaps a little bit of research would have gone a long way) was that the willingness of the news to stoop to levels as low if not lower then the trash rags that fill grocery store shelves was amazing.
My second reaction to it was that Obama is going to have a long and dirty fight ahead of him and I hope that he is ready. Kerry (as much of a WASP as he was) had his nammed dragged through the mud by many people in his campaign. God help Obama, he JUST said he was going to run and they started in on the fear mongering.
And so I say Good luck Mr. Obama, I am sure you are going to need it.
Now, why do I say oh god Guliani and Tancrado?
Lets start with the easy one, Guliani. This man is doing this because of hero worship in my oppinion. He did a hell of a job in NY most people think so why not in DC? Because the man has all the political expertice of John Q. Public when it comes to international relations. Thats it. As far as the GOP goes he had better start sucking up some how though other wise he is never going to make it. Why? Because he is just too liberal.
Now for Tancrado... Xenophobe...MASIVE Xenophobe...SCARY MASIVE XENOPHOBE. This man is one step away from saying dont let any one into the US that isnt american. No one. This is a person who masturbates to visions of the masive fence that they have the want to build across the US border.
FAP FAP FAP oh yeah, razor wire...FAP FAP FAP
So far it looks like a good time for the Dems.
